Peter GreyPoem: Brickmaking Remembered
Dr Peter Grey was director of BTR Technology Services based at Burton upon Trent. Upon retiring from the company in 1997, after thirty-seven years’ service, he applied himself to obtaining a degree in music and afterwards took up writing poetry and short stories.
In 2010 he penned a children’s short story entitled ‘The Magic Biscuit Tin’ which, although not published, was read at several public meetings, as were several of his poems both then and subsequently. He gained third prize in a short story competition in 2012 organised by the Burton Monday Writers, sponsored by the local civic society, and judged by Sue Johnson, the poet, short story writer and novelist. He carried on writing and performing his poems until a few years ago and in March 2014 dedicated a rondeau redouble to the 239 lost souls of Malaysian Airways flight MH370. For the last few years he has lived in the Cotswolds with his wife, Doreen, who is an accomplished writer with numerous short stories and poems published to her name. He continues to take a keen interest in science and also that of music, particularly Lieder, the English Art Song from the mid-19 century onwards, the Baroque masters, and modern music theory. |
