Song 13 (Drayton Dub)

Dowager Arden , elegant cheekbones
haughty in stature, her woodkerns flown

once stretched Trent to Severn
bronze torsos gestating the seasons
tearing her emerald gown

THE BOAR HAS FLED, AND THE DUN COW
Greville hides in a village churchyard

Coventry forgets her Philêmon
no place for humans now

your money is worthless
your bright maidens like corn to the scythe
laments old woman Arden

her hamadryads gone, gone
to the ships to Guinea or Spain.
Jonathan Morley
